Abuse – Case Story

Session 12-14: Timely arrivals for Sessions; but mood, sleep pattern and anxiety did fluctuate. Patient maintained resilience though. Bothered again by the conversations with mother, she remarked,” In all these years, my mother has not acknowledged the abuse, even once. Does she not believe me.!”

Therapist responded, “Human Perceptions are not always based on full awareness of Truth, nor are they necessarily based on desire for Truth; even when one knows the Truth, Perceptions and Behaviors may not be Motivated by Truth.” Patient retorted, “Do you mean my mother is lying ?” Therapist Deflected from direct Judgment, saying ” I don’t know about your mother…..well enough yet. Generally speaking, Human Perceptions and Behaviors are not always about Lie or Truth in Black or White terms.”

“You mean, they Suppress Truth or Distort.?, patient quipped. Therapist needed silent retreat to figure out, but he was partly aware that Silence is not always Golden. It could infuriate or feed into the Patients anger and re-activate the sense of Abandonment leading to a schizoid state or a paranoid state of Depression.

Therapist maintained external calm and responded, “Human Perceptions rely a lot on Selective Quarantine of Truths and Selective Understanding of Realities….especially so, when we are scared.” Therapist paused with a longish Silence, and asked,” Do you ever feel that Human Mind’s are often like Convenience Stores ?”

Coincidentally, there emerged a sense of Resonance between them, as Patient shared, “All the Time, since I was six; Molested before I could even put Sense to it; Confused while making Sense of it; Rejected when my Mind reacted to it; Accused of Sensationalizing when I enacted it; Taunted in Relationships for not making any Sense of it; Failed Relationships when Intimacy flared the Memories of it; Suicidal since the Anger made the best Sense of it; Depressed since Helplessness became the better Sense of it; Anxious when I want to make No-Sense of it. All I expect is Abuse and All I fear is my strength to exist.”

Therapist and Patient continued with their series of Conversations and Communications with transparency, respect and Faith in the process of Release of Repressed Memories and Sublimation of the Re-miniscences of the Wounds and Scars in the MInd.

Processing the emotions and the extended effects on physical and biological aspects, helped moderate these recollection of Perspectives by the Patient, over the Sessions. And she Held on…for the Terminations.
