Work related stress

What is termed as Work related Stress?

Almost everyone who has a held a job feels the pressure at work. Excessive workload, feeling out of control on job situations, pressure to be available 24 hours a day, performance expectations contribute to work related stress. If you have frequent headaches, sleep disturbances, short temper, there may be a high possibility that it is due to work related stress. These may further lead to high blood pressure, anxiety, drug or alcohol abuse, insomnia, unhealthy food habits and other severe problems.

Your counsellor or therapist will help you stimulate the knowledge and internal resources from within. Life style changes and relaxation techniques can be suggested. Medication may be suggested for cases where there are intense physical problems.

What is Post traumatic Stress (PTSD)?

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder develops in some people after extremely traumatic events such as crime, war, abuse or natural disasters. They experience intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to their experience long after the traumatic event has ended. They may have strong reactions to a situation that reminds them of the event, may try to avoid such situations and have flashbacks or nightmares about the event.
It is common for people who are exposed to traumatic events to feel the symptoms described above for a few days or weeks. However, for a person with PTSD, the symptoms last for months to several years and also cause significant distress and impair normal functioning.

How can we help?

At Psychesoft, your therapist will offer Cognitive Behavior Therapies (CBT) to help recover from PTSD. Your therapist will help you confront the distressing emotions related to the trauma and use prolonged or repeated imagining of the trauma in a safe and controlled way to gain control of the fear or distress. They will also use role playing, positive thinking, relaxation techniques and psychodynamic intervention to help you cope up with the emotions and symptoms. Medication may be suggested for cases where there is intense agitation, nightmares or sleep problems.
