What is Phobia?
- Phobia is an irrational fear of something or a situation or an activity.
- You experience a sensation of uncontrollable anxiety or uneasiness when exposed to the source of fear.
- Phobias are very common and can occur during early childhood or teenage years.
- Though certain phobia occurs from a stressful experience , research suggests that phobia is caused by a combination of genetics and life experiences.
Do I need to get treatment for Phobia?
- Many Phobias do not need treatment.
- However, you should see a therapist if it seriously impairs the quality of your life.
- Some phobias like fear of commitment may lead to relationship issues.
- Some others like Fear of flying may result in the individual unable to travel and lead to career issues.
- Phobias may co-exist with other mental health problems and disorders, hence making it very important to understand the cause of the phobia and treat it.

- A combination of exposure therapy , CBT and relaxation techniques may achieve significant improvement in phobia symptoms.
